A Brief Club History

Handcross Village F.C. was re-formed in 1978 to give the local youths a regular game.  At that time all the players lived or worked within the boundaries of Slaugham Parish indeed most had gone to school together and they all went to the youth club and the local pub.

The Club colours are Amber & Black shirts, black shorts and black socks, the colours were the original colours of the Handcross Village F.C. team from the early 1900's.  The original kit was amber and black quarters, a kit that we had made for us in the mid 1990's.  Unfortunately in 1978 it there were no amber and black  kits available locally so our founder who had been to Hull University went back to Hull to get a replica kit and we have been amber and black ever since and hopefully always will be.

The team played on a Sunday morning and maybe surprisingly the players produced some excellent football and were soon on winning ways.  A Saturday football team followed in 1979 and a 2nd XI on Saturdays in 1983 and a 3rd XI on Saturdays in 1999.  In 1988 we started a Ladies team that lasted 6 seasons playing their last game in 1993.

The club still has an enviable record of gaining honours every year since formation in 1978 to 2000.  See our Honours Page to view the full list.

We play our football in the Robert Gray Mid-Sussex Football League, Premier Division , 3 and 8 on Saturdays and have formerly played in the East Grinstead & Crawley District Sunday Football League on Sundays.

Our ground can be found on the very excellent recreation ground at Handcross, next to the Fountain Inn where the pitch is always kept to an superb standard ( I have to say that as the groundsman is also our Chairman) and our drinking HQ is at the Sports and Social Club next door.  All visiting teams are most welcome to join us after a game for some light refreshment.
